Taize-style Worship

7pm Shemmaho teaches the songs

7:30-8pm Worship

The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic order in France. It is composed of about 100 brothers from Protestant and Catholic traditions who originate from about 30 countries across the world. It has become a pilgrimage site for Christians who go there to live in a spirit of kindness, simplicity, and reconciliation. (Source: Wikipedia)

A Taizé-style worship is meditative; a pathway towards a deeper sense of the divine. It consists of prayer and song--no sermon, no announcements, no shuffling of papers. The songs are simple in nature, and as they are repeated over and over in the chanting style, they lend themselves to "spontaneous" harmonies and an "in the moment" expression of mood. Here is a sample.

For participants to more fully surrender to this experience, Shemmaho will be available from 7:00 to 7:25pm to orally teach the songs, so we will not have to be switching from "learning about"and "engaged in" during the actual worship, which will be from 7:30 to 8:00pm.
