Film Screening: Wisdom to Survive

posted Jan 13, 2015, 12:01 PM by Greg Powell   [ updated Jan 13, 2015, 12:06 PM ]

Thursday, Jan 22: 7pm

Cost: By donation

The West Kootenay EcoSociety will screen The Wisdom to Survive: Climate Change, Capitalism & Community

From the distributor's website: "THE WISDOM TO SURVIVE accepts the consensus of scientists that climate change has already arrived, and asks, what is keeping us from action? The film explores how unlimited growth and greed are destroying the life support system of the planet, the social fabric of the society, and the lives of billions of people.

Will we have the wisdom to survive? The film features thought leaders and activists in the realms of science, economics and spirituality discussing how we can evolve and take action in the face of climate disruption. They urge us to open ourselves to the beauty that surrounds us and get to work on ensuring it thrives.

Amongst those featured are Bill McKibben, Joanna Macy, Roger Payne, Richard Heinberg, Gus Speth, Stephanie Kaza, Nikki Cooley and Ben Falk. "

Christmas Eve in Castlegar

posted Dec 17, 2014, 1:26 PM by Castlegar United

Our Christmas Eve (Dec 24) service starts at 7pm

We are at 809 Merrycreek Rd.

What to expect...

The focus of this service is a participatory drama. There won't be any lines to memorize and we won't practice blocking for 12 hours before-hand. There will be props and noise-makers and there are roles for all ages. There will also be candles...but no live animals.

We love to sing, and since we tend to hold off on Christmas carols during Advent (the four weeks leading up to Christmas), this is our chance to let loose on the familiar tunes.

Parking

Our parking lot looks big but it fills up quickly. Parking along Merrycreek Rd is fine, just be sure to let our neighbours out of their driveways.

Child care

Children will want to take part in the service and there is a nursery with a change table and some toys. It also has a speaker so caregivers won't need to miss a beat.
